Our candles
All of our candles are hand poured in small batches right in Danielle’s kitchen. All candles are made using an all natural, 100% soy wax, that comes from US grown soy beans. We chose soy wax because it burns longer than traditional paraffin candles, is more environmentally friendly coming from a vegetable base, and is non-toxic when burned.
That being said, you may sometimes notice some imperfections with your candles, sometimes before and sometimes after burning. Don’t be alarmed! This is a natural process for the soy, and while we take every step possible create the most visually (and sensually) appealing candles, there are some natural flaws that are unavoidable, the most common of which is what’s know as “frosting.” Frosting is a natural byproduct of the wax and in no way effects the smell or burn time of your candles.
So, now you may be wondering, how did we get into the candle making business? Well it all started when Danielle and her mother were looking for a unique baby shower party favor for Danielle’s future niece. After having worked in the outdoor retail industry for two years at that point, Danielle was incredibly more conscious of different alternatives and trying to find a party favor that would be environmentally friendly and something that wouldn’t just get tossed out as soon as guest get home. After picking a theme, fragrances, naming, designing labels and then pouring fifty 3oz soy candles, Danielle completely fell in love with the process. And what happened when you decide you love making something that can potentially produce more candles than you can possibly burn yourself? You decide to share them with everyone else. We truly hope you enjoy burning your Tiny Robot Candle Co. candle just as much as Danielle absolutely loves hand crafting every single one of them.
WHY ROBOTS?
So, what exactly do robots have to do with candles? Not much, really. But to understand the connection, here’s a little more back story about the Tiny Robots.
Danielle started drawing these robots sometime back in the 2004-2005 time frame (when she was in High School), primarily as a quirky form of self expression. She slowed down, but continued drawing them throughout college, where she studied Graphic Design and Photography (yeah, Hartford Art School!). She even made a life-size robot out of cardboard her freshman year! But that’s a whole other story for another day. After college, Danielle kept drawing these little robots, sharing them on Instagram and painting them as gifts when friends got married or had children. In the summer of 2015, she was debating a name for the photography portrait business she was starting, not wanting to go with the usual Danielle Capri Photography but something else that could eventually incorporate more than just family portraits and weddings. A former Professor had the suggestion of “Tiny Robot.” It was in that moment that nothing else would fit, nothing else would do. Tiny Robot Studio was born that summer.
In the years since, robot drawings and paintings have still very much been a part of Danielle’s life and have still been a primary form of self expression outside of photography. When Danielle discovered her love of creating candles, she decided that the candle line should be an offshoot of Tiny Robot Studio, and thus, Tiny Robot Candle Co. was created. Tiny Robot Candle Co. is a product line of Tiny Robot Studio LLC. All robots are original drawings created by Danielle and painted in various media forms, but primarily gouache, pen, and sometimes acrylic paint. Robot prints and miscellaneous items are also available in the shop. Robot paintings are also available for commission and if you have anything you’d love to see a robot on, please contact Danielle and let her know!
